Open Source Software

What does Open Source mean for luckycloud?

At luckycloud, Open Source is not just a technology choice, but a fundamental commitment to the values of transparency, security, and digital independence. We are convinced that a free and open software landscape is the foundation for a secure and self-determined digital future.

Our Values

Our commitment to Open Source is reflected in everything we do:

  1. Transparency: We take pride in openly disclosing which technologies we use and why. We want our users to have full control and understanding of how their data is processed and protected.

  2. Security: Open-source software benefits from the collective intelligence of a global community. Continuous review and improvement lead to a level of security that can only be achieved through openness.

  3. Independence: We rely on Open Source to remain independent of proprietary vendors. This allows us to respond flexibly to the needs of our users and continuously develop our services.

Which Open Source technologies do we use?

Our platform is based on a carefully selected set of Open Source technologies that we continuously optimize together with the community:

  • Storage Solution

At the heart of our storage infrastructure is a multi-site Ceph cluster, known for its impressive scalability and resilience. With our luckycloud S3 interface, we offer an S3-compatible storage solution that seamlessly integrates into existing workflows.

  • Virtualization and Database Environment

Our virtualization infrastructure is based on Proxmox, a proven Open Source platform that supports both KVM-based virtualization and LXC containers. This enables us to manage resources efficiently and respond quickly to new requirements. Our database infrastructure uses Galera Cluster for high availability, while HAProxy acts as a load balancer to ensure even load distribution and optimize the performance of our services.

  • Sync & Share

At the center of our Sync & Share solutions is Seafile, a robust and flexible Open Source platform for file synchronization and sharing. Seafile allows our users to securely store, share, and synchronize files—both on individual devices and in teams. In addition, we use OnlyOffice for collaborative document editing, enabling seamless collaboration directly in the cloud.

  • Mail Environment

For our email services, we rely on mailcow, a powerful Open Source platform that integrates Postfix and Dovecot as server-side components. SOGo and SnappyMail serve as frontends to provide a modern and secure email solution that meets the highest standards and ensures reliable communication.

  • Meeting Environment

Our meeting environment is based on BigBlueButton, an Open Source web conferencing solution specifically designed for collaborative online sessions. It forms the backbone of our communication infrastructure and enables stable and efficient virtual meetings.

  • Communication Environment

For our communication solutions, we rely on Matrix, a secure and decentralized Open Source platform for real-time communication, allowing our users to communicate in an open and secure environment.

  • Cache Environment

To optimize the performance of our applications, we use Redis, a high-performance in-memory key-value store. Redis supports us through efficient caching and fast data processing.

  • Container Environment

Our applications run in isolated Docker container environments, providing us with high flexibility and scalability. Docker ensures that our services are clearly separated and easy to manage.

  • Analytics Environment

For analyzing our website, we use Matomo, an Open Source web analytics platform that we host ourselves. This allows us to gain detailed insights into the use of our website while ensuring the privacy of our users.

Our Commitment to the Open Source Community

We are not only users but also contributors to the Open Source world. Through our involvement in the community, whether by sharing code, reporting bugs, or developing our own extensions, we actively contribute to advancing the Open Source landscape. Our goal is to make the internet an open, secure, and free space—just as it was originally intended to be.
