Synchronization

What is the Sync Client?

The Sync Client is a software that allows you to synchronize your data on the local computer with luckycloud. First, the Sync Client must be downloaded and set up. After successful setup, you can select folders and files that should be automatically synchronized with luckycloud from now on. Changes are then automatically transferred to all synchronized devices.

The Sync Client can be installed on Windows, Mac, or Linux devices.

How do I synchronize my local data with luckycloud?

Once you have successfully installed the Sync Client on your computer or laptop and added your luckycloud account, there are three options for synchronizing your folders with luckycloud.

a) Upload folders and set up local synchronization

With the Sync Client, you can easily bring existing folder structures into the cloud without changing your current folder organization.

  1. To upload a new folder to luckycloud, drag and drop the respective folder into the lower field of the client. This creates a new directory in luckycloud. Alternatively, you can click the field and select the respective folder. (Do not double-click!)
  2. A window with further options will open.
  3. If you want to enable end-to-end encryption in this directory, check the "encrypted" box and enter a password for this folder.
  4. Click "OK" to start the process.

The duration of the synchronization process may take some time depending on your internet connection speed and the size of the data.

To share encrypted directories, the user needs a luckycloud account and the corresponding password to decrypt the data.

Note: Creating external share links and upload links for encrypted directories is not possible! Please also note that passwords for encrypted directories cannot be reset by us if lost. If you forget the password for a directory, it cannot be recovered. luckycloud follows a zero-knowledge cloud principle, and therefore we do not store directory passwords on our servers. Likewise, an encrypted directory cannot be subsequently freed from password protection. In this case, it is necessary to create a new unencrypted directory and re-upload the data.

Exclude files/folders from synchronization

You can exclude certain folders or files from synchronization in the Sync Client. Here's how:

  1. Go to the respective directory where the file or folder is located that should not be synchronized.
  2. Create a txt file and name it "luckycloud-ignore.txt"
  3. Open the luckycloud-ignore.txt file and write the folder name or file name inside, ending with a "/", e.g., "Cache/"
  4. Save the file in the first level of the respective directory (not in a subfolder).
  5. Open the luckycloud Sync Client.
  6. a) If you have already set up synchronization, right-click on the respective directory and select "resync."
  7. b) Set up synchronization.

Exit Sync Client

The Sync Client runs in the background of your computer. Here's how to exit the Sync Client on Windows:

  1. Open the programs running in the background. Click the arrow at the bottom right of your taskbar:
  2. A small window will open at the bottom right. The yellow-orange symbol is the luckycloud Client-Client. Right-click on the symbol.
  3. Then select "Exit."

Background programs on Mac are displayed at the top right. Otherwise, the process is the same on macOS.

Disable auto-start of the Sync Client

  1. Right-click on the luckycloud Client icon in the background programs.
  2. Select "Settings."
  3. A new window will open. Select the "General" tab there.
  4. Uncheck "Automatically start luckycloud Client after login."
